Optimization of Ni-doping on LaCoO3 to maximize CO2 conversion and CO selectivity in RWGS reaction

Ni was doped into LaCoO3 perovskites to improve the performance on reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction at low temperature. The electron donation between La-site and B-site had been decreased when Ni was incorporated to the perovskites. By adjusting B-site compositions, H2 dissociation and CO desorption could be controlled and subsequently enhance CO2 conversion and CO selectivity. La-site with weak electron donation lowers the CO selectivity by attracting CO moles with strong adsorption which leads hydrogenation. However, by doping 10 at.% of Ni, CO desorption was maximized during RWGS, and also the performance on H2 dissociation and CO2 conversion had been increased. LaCo0.9Ni0.1O3 was the most suitable oxygen carrier which could reach the equilibrium conversion of CO2 and high CO selectivity at 450 °C.
